Q: Dear Dr. M, I have just enrolled on a IME list and they are asking me for a sample IME report and a sample Peer report. I know what an IME report is but i have no idea what a peer report is. Do you know where I could get some examples? A: An IME list is used by the insurance company to question the services or care of another DC .. short and sweet. Since you probably have to send them the results of your exam .. this would be your IME report the sample Peer report would be how you write an opinion about a fellow DC. Your state association has a peer review panel .. if you need a copy of one .. ask if they can send you one. Be careful here .. IME's isn't just simple money for an exam .. there are legal issues if attorneys are involved and patient's must stop care because of your review. Both the patient .. DC and their attorney will be looking for your head .. regardless of the insurance company stating they will back you. No question there is a need for peer review .. just be sure what you write and HEAVILY document it .. if possible call their DC and discuss the case and let them know things have to be wrapped up .. that's why their patient was sent to the IME. Often the company requesting the IME doesn't want you to contact the patient's DC .. so be sure what you write .. keep a copy .. and be honest. Your reputation will be on the line. Have a Great Day Dr. M
