Health Fairs How We Did It As the weather continues to warm, flowers bloom just as your community begins to burst with enthusiasm for the season to come. This time of year, the corporate community, especially proactive companies, begin the challenge of enabling their employees in both productivity and wellness by organizing their annual health fair. These companies have read recent data that outlines health and wellness as primary for their employee base. Their human resources department may utilize weight loss and walking programs, psychological counseling, stop smoking campaigns to name just a few. But, unfortunately they lack the knowledge that their local chiropractor may be a beacon of wellness for the employees. As structural scientists we are well versed in the management of physical stress and ergonomic enhancements. Our objective eye can help avoid repetitive injuries while increasing the preventive steps taken by the HR department. Our educational programs can be used as either an elective lunch and learn or mandatory workshop. Our opinion should be valued rather than overlooked. So, the game this time of year is finding local venues offering a health fair or some form of Spring and Summer employee program. Game rules dictate that someone be responsible to review your community and place calls, send letters and literally canvas the community to find these venues. There is little time to waste as corporate organizers are already gathering vendor participants by determining who would best enhance employee productivity and provide the most for the few hours they are there. Donıt miss out on this opportunity to partner with a companyıs health fair or create your own opportunity. An office building may have a lobby where you can place a table providing educational pamphlets and screen their employees for postural stress during norma lunch hours or before and after work. Your initial inquiry may stimulate their interest in some of your ergonomic and health and wellness workshops or a workstation walk through helping their safety team provide an enhanced vision of prevention. The possibilities are limited only by your level of knowledge and comfort. Here is what we did to provide a local companyıs well run and organized health fair some chiropractic exposure. First, our office staff was provided the knowledge necessary to ³own² their station. We spent a morning with a mock table set-upalong with our visualization props such as the Associate by Foot Levelers and our digital camera for our PosturePro program. Each staff member knew why, what and how along with the flow to generate interested new patients or at least an office evaluation. A few months ago I purchased an Associate foot scanner from Foot Levelers and have been very impressed with the ease to determine pedal imbalance. I found it just as easy to merge my chiropractic purpose with the foundational strength necessary to both hold adjustments and further their overall structural balance and stability. The Associate $999 purchase price offered to doctors at our yearly convention was provided with a out clause. If I wanted to return the unit within a year, I would receive my money back. Well, in less that three months, I sold enough orthotics with a $100 profit to pay for the unit and kept their laptop as well. My positive purchase decision was made clear with the number of employees who readily took off their shoes and socks to have their foot scanned during this recent health fair. If not mistaken, we must have scanned more than 40-50 potential new patients within a three-hour span. Our slogan was Check for Postural Stress as You are as Strong as Your Foundation. Along with using a digital camera for our PosturePro program, we enwrapped the area with visualization and value. Using a number of promotional props and scripts our goal to was screen as many people as possible, collect e-mail addresses for our office newsletters and means to keep in touch. Door prizes were offered to attract our in-office evaluation and we were on our way. Overall, the event went extremely smoothly and was very successful. I recommend you look into owning an Associate and start recommending orthotics for your patients. The Foot Leveler company has excellent customer service and their training cannot be beat. I know they have a limited time special as Iıve seen their Associate advertisements in our magazines. The $999 fee has been reduced to $699 with the same guarantee. To be sure, you may wish to contact Essie at: egrant@footlevelers.com or visit their website at: www.footlevelers.com or call her at: 1-800-553-4860 extension: 3055. The PosturePro is a great draw and is useful for all new patient evaluations. It was created by Dr. Joe Ventura who can be reached at: sales@posturepro.com or www.posturepro.com. Their banner can be found on my website. I usually take a posture picture and a foot scan on every patient and after a few visits provide a written and visual report. It is quite effective. I also file insurance for these pocedures if coverage is available. The Computer Postural Analysis is coded: 97750 Have a Great Day Dr. M Postings: Dr. Joel E.
