Join a chiropractic mission E-mail message this week: Getting Out There Last week's e-mail mentioned how many community and patient workshops I've done in June and July, using my Powerpoint presentations. It stimulated a number of replies requesting how I set these classes up and if I had some books detailing it. Well, as you are aware, it's easier said then done but to getting out within your community starts with a little investigation. First, determine what your market is by reviewing the demographics of your community. Whether you work in a bustling metropolis or a sleepy bedroom community, there are always places to give a talk, screen potential new patients, be available with an informational table in a building atrium or other venue, network with allied professionals and much more such as a church, library, municipal building, bank, community clubhouse, recreational center, civic, sports and senior citizen facilities, the PTA, customers in retail shops and the list grows from here. The demographic makeup of your community, retail, residential, labor or clerical, will dictate which programs fit, how best to tweak your presentations and where and whom to target to. If you do your homework, and it takes time, you drove around mapping out where these facilities and venues are and writing down addresses and phone numbers if available. Time is spent gathering the information, making the phone calls, sending material or meeting with the contact person and setting up dates for the programs. It is somewhat overwhelming for the sole practitioner, but with baby steps and hiring a dedicated staff member, it gets done and programs are locked in months in advance. What to say, send and the logistics of putting on a smooth show with positive results take more time than these meager words allow. I do have two books at $30 each explaining how best to get the message out. These are my Chiropractic Marketing and Public Relations and my Workshop Workbook. These outline, some material is in both books, how best to start and finish the process. The Powerpoint presentations are priced conservatively to help doctors get started. If you want to do it right, you'll need a projector and laptop and some knowledge of Powerpoint to edit and tweak your own or my presentations. You can also print handouts from these presentations and use them as your guide or create overhead transparences, easy to do, and purchase a cheaper overhead projector. The idea is to get out there and be persistent. Be sure to collect letters of appreciation from the places you speak to. When you reach out to others, these are worth their weight in gold as a source of recommendation and credibility. You can order my books or Powerpoint presentations from my webstore at: www.chirosmart.net/shop If your state or local chiropractic association needs a speaker on the topic of community awareness, I have a ten hour program, broken into two hour segments, which includes public relations and marketing, personal injury and attorney relations, marketing to professionals including healthcare providers as well as practice management and referral stimulation. Just e-mail me at joel3639@aol.com for further details. The key is getting out there and even more important today Have a Great Day Dr. M Postings: Dr. Joel E.
