Fun in Practice The other day I overheard a conversation between two elderly gentlemen, remembering the things they missed. Each described a few fun segments of their youth that added quality, substance and fun to each day. They realized their age and physical condition did not prevent them from enjoying these pastimes and furthermore, with little fanfare or effort, they could easily implement them into their daily routine. The benefit was more fun, less stress and a healthier future. This is so true for us. When was the last time you had fun in practice? I hope you enthusiastically say always! Does your practice run on energy generated by patient and staff or does each day bring more headaches? Can you reply back with at least three promotional events planned for the next four weeks or is each day a burden generating new patients? Are your patients following your lead or are they dragging you down with them? Are you spending money to increase your patient base or is each dollar held so tight that your practice cannot breath? Has there been days since your graduation that you felt you made the best decision studying chiropractic or have you doubted your choice more days than none? Again, when was the last time you had fun or should I go on? During my Powerpoint patient Stress and Wellness workshops, I tend to dwell on the simple things that make a person happy and whole. It doesnıt take much if you consider that each component boosts the other. Take for example a simple and cheap practice booster, like a patient newsletter. If everyone gets involved, the end result is clinic teamwork, achievement and an increased bottom line. Let one chiropractic assistant search the web for health-oriented articles and possibly a healthy recipe or two. Have the other collect patient testimonials (donıt forget HIPPA releases) or patient birthdays and place them within each newsletter by date and patient first name and last initial. There is nothing as powerful as staff seeing positive patient results, itıs a tremendous referral tool. Doctor, create a patient of the month profile and walk your readers through a typical day with pain and impairment and how and why chiropractic helped. How many patients know you excel in carpal tunnel care, headaches, sciatica, pediatric and geriatric care? Creating a simple newsletter, whether printed or sent via e-mail, is a clinic project. This simple program adds quality and fun to your practice while educating your patients too. What about birthday cards, reminder postcards, six month check-up letters, daily random patient letters from the doctor, daily random patient letters from the staff or so many other simple and fun things to do that makes each day creative. Like those older men, less time remembering the good old days and more time making everyday count is the key to health, happiness and success. Most importantly itıs fun!
