Q: I received the CA Marketing book in the mail.....thank you. We just signed up 4 big big big companies (450 and up employees) to do our community wellness programs (finally! but worth the wait and effort). I was wondering if there was anywhere or anything i could gain information on ergonomics. I would like to feel like i am totally confident about what i will be getting up in front of all of these people to teach on. Are there books available or something that may help us besides what is in your books? Thank you once again. Don't know what we would do without you. A: Thanks for the kind words and congrats on your big win. Remember .. just like new patients .. you want to duplicate that new person into two or three .. a friend a family member etc. Therefore .. be sure to get a thank you letter from the manager of supervisor(s) .. if you give some programs to different groups with different managers or supervisors on different dates have each send you some letter on their letterhead thanking you for your time and knowledge and how much their employees were helped. I always say before I give my presentation: "if you feel my talk was useful, I'd appreciate a kind letter so I can include it with the others I send out. Would this be okay" They always say yes, and if they forget we call them .. there are times I revived just a letterhead with a signature on the bottom and they asked me to write what I wanted and at times they asked me what I thought would be good and I told them. Collecting these letters and sending them with your packets to other companies creates instant credibility. As far as ergonomic information .. you can look on my webpage under weblinks .. there are three items called ergonomics and at the bottom there is a link to the 3M company .. you can download a slew of stuff from them .. they have a section just for ergonomics. Also .. go to a search engine .. yahoo.com and search for carpal tunnel or ergonomics or repetitive stress syndrome , etc .. you'll be all day downloading material. In reality .. I never found I had to impress anyone with data or facts. Just follow the script in my book for the fit while you sit class .. give them 15 minutes of simple exercises .. go to a Target store of K-Mart and look in the toy dept. for nerf balls ..there are different sizes .. now they are sold five to a bag large enough to fit in your hand .. I give everyone in the class a nerf ball .. I must have 40 or so .. I do get them back as these are hard to find. I also roll up a pair of socks and use it myself while they use the nerf ball and show them it is easy to implement this exercises (to squeeze the ball in your palm five or six times and them using the fingertips the same way .. I also ask them to keep their arms straight out .. not to bend the elbow .. to avoid a double crush syndrome (I now have the chance to discuss the relationship between the cervical brachial area and the wrist) .. and how conservative chiropractic care is a proactive means to avoid this chronic stress to their neck and wrist. Anyhow .. if you want to spend big bucks .. there is a carpal tunnel book out by two DC's Scott something or other .. I have it .. never used it .. as what I said and did was all I needed. Good Luck and keep in touch By the way .. once you get a letter and begin doing these programs ask the managers if they know of any other companies that would benefit .. send the letters to the chamber of commerce .. the local newspapers should be advised once you get off the ground Dr. M
