The Economy I've had a number of doctors e-mailing problems with the economy. Patient numbers have fallen and some patients are playing Deal or No Deal with bills. With fuel jacked up and the price of rice rising to a premium, people are thinking twice about spending money and I don't blame them. I also consolidate expenses and think before a purchase trying to make wise thoughtful decisions while deciding if I am taking out my credit card on emotion or need. In other words, is there a value to the purchase; will it benefit me and can I afford it. I hope your office is immune to economic whims riding high whether the weather is sunshine or cloudy. But, if you feel a trend approaching, the only answer to what can be done is to practice with this prominently in mind, is your service valuable, beneficial and affordable? This is the time to have regular staff meetings and discuss the climate of your office prior to any storms getting out of control. Staff meetings should include discussions of each new patient, their attitude to doctor and staff recommendations, their financial concerns and if they seem to have received the educational services giving you the green light for proper recommendations and follow through. Education allows patients to see value, understand their need for proper care and realizing financial policies and options allowing them to heal correctly. Rather than looking over your shoulder seeing a swinging door of patients out and not returning in, keep the hinges free by providing a superior product with caring and willing staff. Keep patients from dropping out by evaluating your office and plugging holes that have been leaking for sometime. Feel the flow of new ones with active cost effective marketing programs with timely referrals. Create the energy necessary to keep staff and patients involved with the wonders of the body and praising results on a regular basis. Keep the community aware of your activities with timely e-mail newsletters, media awareness and various community events. Yes, we are in a difficult economic climate, possibly a recession. Doesn't mean you have to be dragged down with it. Be in charge, get back to basics, provide a superior office experience and the rest will fall comfortably in place Have a Great Day Dr. M Postings: Office space available in Beautiful downtown Encinitas Ca: $1000 monthly.
