Diversify Your Practice If you have funds in the stock market, the best thing to do is harness your seatbelt and wait it out. The literal sky has fallen from a number of huge investment houses and banks, creating a sense of fear. If you are not diversified within the market with safer and fixed vehicles of savings, the climb back will be slow and steady. The same holds true with a chiropractic office. You must diversify your patient and community base to either weather a storm or take advantage of the variances of the moment. I remember a doctor priding himself as being the corporate doc of a huge warehouse. His corporate neighbor was in town forever, a solid bulwark of the community and with great insurance. He didn't spend any time looking for other venues of marketing, spending all his time managing the nuances of this one corporate heavyweight. Well, as you probably predicted, overnight he was stunned to learn that the company was moving its warehouse to another state leaving many in the lurch, he included. This is not a huge town and the other chiropractors were previously planting their seeds along the way leaving this doctor hard pressed to fill an office with new patients. Yes, he was lazy and depended on one resource but this is not uncommon if you feel too comfortable with the status quo and stop the growth of new alliances and community networking. Doctor, the unpredictable world of Wall Street with the threat of losing tens of thousands of dollars in a few days, and I have, should be a wake up call to diversify in all endeavors of life. But, as far as my professional life, my chiropractic practice, the instigator of my savings, I leave less to chance. I kicked into gear Marketing 101 and reviewed the demographics of my area and decided on a few spots to promote and plant new patient seeds. I created a Soft Tissue Injury PowerPoint Presentation for attorneys and their paralegals and presented one during lunch yesterday. Personal Injury work is a crapshoot at times but can be quite lucrative and very beneficial for those involved. The attorney is the conduit to your officer and often the protector of your fees, save the negotiations here and there. If there is one thing that endears a professional to you it's seeing you in action. Attorneys need an expert witness, at least an advocate for their client, doctors that have little problem presenting the facts when called upon. My workshop presented enough material to make me look good and the feedback was welcomed. I hope referrals follow. I also established a community Health Fair with local professionals and vendors that will take place next week, just next door in Recreation Center. Besides this diversification of meeting new people, I also presented a Stress Management Class in my local library and was involved in three corporate Health Fairs all within the last month. Keeping busy means I are diversifying. I recommend you do the same Have a Great Day Dr. M PS. If you wish to purchase my Soft Tissue Injury PowerPoint Presentation with over 40 slides, I will have it on-line to download and for you to view the first twelve slides via my webstore: www.chirosmart.net/shop this weekend. If you need a boost to promote your PI business, I recommend you purchase my PI Workbook for $30, it's a steal I will also be speaking at the next Fernandez Seminar in Atlanta. The title for the weekend is: The Secrets of Attracting New Profitable Personal Injury Patients and Building a Super-Successful PI Practice. Dates are from Friday October 24, 25 & 26. The ease of use combined with quality color reports sets your product apart from any other. Chiropractic is one of the best ways in the world to increase spinal range of motion. Your product is the best in the world to document it. The patients have a complete understanding of what we are trying to accomplish during the course of their treatment. Attempts to alter spinal position and posture can be met with embarrassing failure, even among the best CBP doctors. Range of Motion, on the other hand, can improve on much more consistent basis. Reply with positive feedback to this prospective student: I have been seriously considering a career in chiropractic, but i have been reading a lot of negative feedback on the industry as a whole. My aunt is a chiropractor and she loves it and is pretty successful, and she will be retiring in about 6 years and would like me to take over her practice. I am currently taking the necessary prerequisites for Chiropractor College, and about 60 credits away from getting my bachelors. I really do believe i can be very successful in this career but i am nervous lately about a lot of the negative feedback i have been reading on the Internet (former DC saying they wish they never did it and they are in so much debt now etc..... But i also have been reading some positives too... Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. By the way i am 28, is it to late? Reply to: excellence1220@aol.com
