Confidence and Commitment Marketing and public relations is the key to a continued flow of new and existing patients. This component of practice management may often be costly and unmanageable. Unfortunately Public Relations is an afterthought in Chiropractic College just scratching the surface. Students are more interested in passing boards and pay little attention to practice development hoping their gifted hands will provide. Most graduates with lofty dreams of success and financial reward find they have to spend hundreds of dollars for post graduate programs to even correctly code insurance and there are enough seminars and consultants out there. They offer advice, provide proper forms, lead clients to vendors and help maintain the enthusiasm necessary for the doctorıs success. But itıs all for naught if the doctor is unable or unwilling to follow the advice or spend the appropriate amount of time and money to see the projects through. Years ago when I taught how to establish a new practice class at Life University, I realized that starting a practice for financially challenged new graduates would be difficult. The class provided eight or more weeks of specific practice management and public relations concepts that would cost little but would dearly require commitment and follow through. I wrote my Smart Start text, you could purchase it for $60 on my webpage, outlining what steps would help to establish a solid foundation both within the office and the community. How many graduates who took my class, and there were many, used the book and followed through with the proven ideas? How many of you reading this, sat through similar classes or spent oodles of money with consultants still not reaching the level of success you deserve? I hope you, my readers, are leaders within your community and proud of your accomplishments. If you are, we could easily dissect a common theme amongst you, success resulted from persistence and follow through. Reading and absorbing information not always objecting and rejecting. There is always time to make changes and reestablish goals. Our business is based on service and the more we provide the more we gain. Referrals come from asking but not from desperation. Your confidence and commitment is the bridge they use to bring them from hoping for results and finding it. Every piece of marketing you do has that level of trust built in. Whether you spend money to learn more or you piecemeal every concept into a winning product, follow through and confidence will get you to where you want to go.
