The Bottom Line If you have been reading these e-mails for a number of years, you would have read at least two messages concerning the Apprentice show with Donald Trump. Granted this isnıt the most intellectual venue, but it does offer us another window of the business world. Without cost or effort, we watch the trials and tribulations of two teams marketing a product with the winning team having the most sales or product exposure. Sound familiar? Our every working moment is towards helping people and the more people we assist the better for both. Product exposure and sales .. you bet. Oh, I can hear some of you complaining that I placed our honored profession with the sleazy salesmen and fish mongerers, but when you come down to it, we are all in and about business. Lucky you if it comes natural and your marketing revenue is low, but some of us have to work hard at maintaining a successful practice and some spend oodles of money to keep the momentum going. Our healthcare business requires us to be aware of the industry, our community, our competition and better yet aware of the nuances of public relations and marketing, getting the most pop from each buck. So, getting back to the Apprentice. Last week the two teams were given the challenge of selling sports products for Dickıs. They were to choose a sport and focus and tailor a section of the store towards this sport while selling related products. The team with the most sales wins. Okay, one team chose golf and other chose baseball. The team choosing baseball had more men and they knew the sport. They created a beautiful baseball diamond and had lines of kids and parents waiting to bat and throw etc. In terms of public relations, they excelled, kids were instructed, parents were impressed. A great educational experience with great exposure. The other team knew little about golf but created punting areas and displays of clubs etc. Lots of smoke and mirrors but they were selling clothes and equipment. As the teams met with Trump in the boardroom, the bottom line was not how much education was offered, how well the participants like you or how nice the display was, the bottom line was sales. This was the challenge and goal. Who sold the most and who garnered a profit for Dickıs. Since the baseball diamond was full of kids being instructed there was little time to sell. The golf teams had little time to instruct but lots of time to sell. They won. In fact when the total sales receipts were read, the team with the baseball theme lost lots of money for Dickıs. This resulted in Trump firing the entire team Doctor, if any of our consultants were to spend a few days in your office what would they say .. Youıre Hired or Fired? How many screenings have you done with lots of educational discussion but little fruitful new patients? How many workshops have you felt great about but were unable to make the close strong enough or with enough conviction to bring in the new patients you expected? How many special events have you created or participated in that was great exposure but brought little in return? The bottom line is focus. Focus on our product .. health and wellness. Focus on our skills .. adjusting and wellness awareness. Focus on our teams .. staff and patients. Focus on service .. share your knowledge and make it available. Focus on success as if you were participating on the Apprentice so you never hear the infamous words .. Youıre Fired!
