E-mail message this week:  Advertising

This message isn't about your advertising but about advertising to us. I was looking 
through a number of our journals and realized that many ads feature consultants willing 
and able to turn your practice and life around. Usually these are full-page ads that start 
with the history of an abysmal practice life saved by joining a consultant group, 
purchasing a miraculous advertising program or changing your practice mojo. The 
common denominator is success and financial rewards. Besides these practice 
enhancement programs there are various adjunctive programs such as nutrition, esthetics 
and other patient services that will ultimately increase your money flow after depleting it 
just getting involved.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the only person capable of making the 
change is you. No question that proper guidance and tools help to overcome deficiencies 
that were prior status quo. No question that hands on consulting tweaks the cobwebs from 
your inner sanctum and stimulates life in staff and patients. The ultimate goal of 
increased chiropractic awareness, patient management and community awareness is a 
healthy and hefty bottom line. 

So doctor, does your practice need a transfusion of lifeblood or a sit down with your staff 
hashing out the goals and means to reaching them? Does your psyche require shock 
therapy to rid the demons of old and unsuccessful practice habits? After reviewing your 
practice protocols are there too many questions with too few answers? If the answer to 
these were all yes, then pay attention to these advertisements and do your due diligence 
prior to joining or spending the funds necessary to gather the data and seeking the 
assistance of some guru you feel comfortable to follow. Nothing is wrong with finding a 
mentor and the fees associated with knowledge. This is a means to an end; you'll 
probably pay better attention when money is on the line.

This was my thought of the day after reading briefly through a number of these ads. If 
you are one of many doctors with great potential but little to show for it, go for it. Your 
community deserves your best and anything blocking this is unacceptable. Coaching is a 
gift that pays for itself in multiple ways. But, listen, follow through and have your staff 
on board or it'll be just another journey with an unhappy ending.
