Adapt and Enjoy Life is a matter of adaptation, no longer adapt, we either succumb or die. A chiropractic practice is very similar, we either go with the market or demographic changes or flounder with success. You either remain updated and attuned to the variances of practice management and technology or become stodgy and stuck in your ways. So, like many of you, I always strive to keep myself appraised of whatıs happening in chiropractic and then listen to the wee voice within to guide me from one direction to another. In fact, one sure proactive step to avoid burn-out is to get excited within chiropractic via another technique, communication skill, nutritional approach or marketing idea. The feeling that charges your batteries after a technique seminar, weekend practice management program or discussing shop with a colleague is what Iım talking about. In this regard, I recently made some changes and would like to share them with you. Technically, I am a specific adjuster using Activator, Thompson, Cox and Diversified to get the hard bone off the soft tissue. This past weekend, I attended of an eye opening technique seminar by Dr. Tedd Koren. Like Gonstead, Grostic, Logan, Thompson and other mentor technicians, he created and named a new technique after himself, Koren Specific Technique, taking into account various ³non-force² adjusting styles. Using light force instrumentation for adjustments, subtle challenging for analysis as well as incorporating cranial work, both physical stress to patient and doctor is eliminated. Granted, this may be a stretch for die-hard practitioners, but for others willing to explore and adapt this may be of great interest. Response from patients has been quite appealing charging my battery and energizing my practice. After 29 years of practice and thankfully helping thousands, itıs great to have my radar up for new ideas and focusing on additional ways to help others. Check them out at: www.korenseminars.com I recently attended the Georgia Chiropractic Association Convention and meandered around the various vendors. Like a kid in a toy store, Iıd love to spend some dough on digital x- ray units and high tech rehab studios, but gun shy as I am to make that big dollar purchase, I withdraw to what I have at hand. This time, I spent time at the Foot Leveler area and observed one doctor or CA after another getting scanned with their Associate computer analysis unit. Simple and visual it seemed easy to review photographic images of a patientıs foot as an avenue to discuss postural stress and the need for proper support. As services are a means towards income expansion, spinal pelvic stabilizers makes sense and will help most of our patients. I bought the unit and finally found a way to smoothly transition a discussion about spinal pelvic stabilizers and most important, a way to fit them correctly if necessary. This also spiked my interest and expanded my awareness of our great profession. Check them out at: www.footlevelers.com Third, at the Koren Seminar one of the vendors was Bruce Goldsmith of Visual-Odyssey. He is not a DC but might as well be since his dedication and fortune has been tied to us for almost 30 years. Starting with educational wall charts, Neuropatholators (space age for its time), lecture charts, visual business cards and now computer educational programs, he deserves our professional support. Bruce broke ground and was the pioneer for the visual educational programs being sold today. Sunday morning he sponsored breakfast and between eggs and bagels, demonstrated the wonders of his programs. As I tell many doctors, education is the key to practice success and you can never have enough of it. If two or three patients extend their visits and refer others because of visual odyssey programs, it pays for itself many times only. I create individual report of findings with it demonstrating, as no other program can the reality of their problem and am continually amazed how often and how creative his updates are. Check them out at: www.visual- odyssey.com These three unsolicited testimonials, is simply a way to acknowledge some pioneers within our profession. Tedd Koren has been through a lot. His publishing company was targeted by the FTC and cost him almost his life savings to defend himself and our profession. Very few of us knew the seriousness to chiropractic his legal troubles bode for us. It wasnıt his fault or doing but became his mission to reveal the dangers of governmental control of our educational procedures and a threat to all alternative and natural healing. Dr. Monte Greenawalt, founded Foot Levelers who has supported our profession for over 50 years deserves our support. Bruce Goldsmith is a humble and honest man with a great respect for our profession he too deserving our support. Keep an open mind, expand your knowledge, increase your service and prosper Have a Great Day Dr. M Postings: Dr. Joel E.
