This doctor is new in practice and is having a rough time getting things started. I requested she provide me with a week¼s log of her activity of internal patient and office management and external public relations and marketing. Below is her reply and log along with my recommendations. The book in question is my Smart Start Book .. the text used at Life University. It can be purchased for $59.95 by calling 770-491-3639 The following is the response to this doctor¼s weekly log sent via e-mail. Below is my reply to your week .. lets keep in touch and get you on your way. Read what I wrote below and reply in a week. Below you will find a copy of what you sent me and after the .... is my reply or comments Dr. M Thank you for taking the time to evaluate my week. Since I am the sole employee of my office you will see administrative duties thrown in. I wrote down everything that was done this week. It did make me realize I am taking steps toward the BIG goal. Let me know what you think: Monday AM: Typed and sent out letters to people who have just moved to the area. Prospective patients, approx 17. .... Be sure you have an active log to place these names with a timeline to follow through. During lunch I distributed letters to 2 area elementary schools on our service of scoliosis screenings and talks to the kids. Bank Postoffice Called and left a message with the Federal Air Traffic Controllers about Stress classes that my office provides. (I have a patient that works there.) Called a friend of mine that is in charge of a local referee association about a talk. ... First of all, my opinion, scoliosis screenings will not help your practice much .. same as talking to school kids .. but .. if you wish .. I recommend touching base with the PTA to send material in their newsletters or be present at their meetings with an informational table .. or better yet .. find out who the science teacher¼s are and send them a letter or talk with them about coming to class with your spine and going over it .. also see if you can place some newsletter in the teacher¼s boxes .. this is where you should be placing your energy ... Banks .. find out who the bank manager is .. see if you can place a table there once a month or at least once for information concerning Aging Gracefully .. or Fitness over 50. All banks have their Medicare aged people come in the beginning of the month and week to make deposits etc. If you have some information about their general health .. and show it to the manager .. they may see it as a community service .. it¼s all part of your community outreach program. .... Post Office .. page 211 in Smart Start Book .. place your letterhead above this workbook and copy to page 215. Bring this with you to the post office and ask to speak with the Postmaster. Advise him/her that you have community outreach programs and when you were a student at Life you went over the ergonomics of the postal service and wish to give them a similar workshop .. and here is the workbook you¼ll be handing out. The classes will be early and probably for no more than 15 minutes but you may be able to set up a program on a quarterly basis. ... Stress Classes .. pages 208-210 .. same thing make a copy of this and place your letterhead on top. Have a packet to give these folks. Use pages 190-191 .. again with your letterhead and have a white large envelope with this in it as well as anything you feel is specific to their your your needs. Start to hand these out to patients once they tell you where they work and there is a possibility you may be able to provide a workshop .. also br sure it¼s not too far away. Read page 61 (the first italic script), use this. The referee idea is great but prepare handouts and material in advance so you are ready to turn key it rather than create a program. Be sure to log who and what you gave everyone. Monday P.M: Saw patients Sent out B-Day cards to Feb. B-Days ... Begin awareness that you need help to spread the chiropractic story. Ask patients with the script on page 61 .. not from desperation but from purpose and the great desire to help them and others. The birthday card is meaningless unless there is a value to it .. is there? Tuesday A.M: Administrative Duties (INS) called a local athletic trainer to introduce myself Tuesday P.M. saw patients .... spend time between patient¼s looking through the yellow pages under attorney and log (use page 45) the ones that are doing trial or personal injury. Begin calling in your spare time determining who is the attorney within this firm that does PI work and the names of the paralegal that does it as well. Send material (use pgs 72-3) and follow up within a week. Call local health spas and use the script and ideas found on page 70-71. All this takes time but you know .. the fact that you are in the realm of doing something .. something will come out of it. As for the athletic trainer .. what did you give him ..what can you provide .. what will you get out of it .. can you touch base with the parents .. maybe create a flyer or newsletter to hand them about fitness and chiropractic .. with the „why and because¾ Wednesday A.M: Sent out haven't seen you in a while cards approx. 22 Sent out follow up letters to 2 of the athletic trainers that I spoke with. Distributed more scoliosis screening letters to area elementary and middle schools Spoke with a friend about a lecture to a local teachers group. .... All well and good .. follow through is crucial. First off .. what buttons would teachers react to? Stress .. wellness .. carpal tunnel .. neck and shoulders .. give this thought and compose a letter .. provide the resource in the form of a flyer or handout .. then present a proposal. Thursday: wrote Feb. Newsletter Did some reading from the D.E. manual and the Smart start book. Friday: finished up newsletter ... I¼d like to see the newsletter. How are you creating it .. not so much the computer program or the mechanics but with mindset .. what can you visualize as a result .. think as if someone else is reading it. By the way .. spend some time canvassing your farm and call mom and pop shops as well as local retail stores and get their fax and e-mail numbers .. This is an inexpensive means to keep in touch Saturday: drove 31/2 hours to adjust a newborn that has not stopped crying for 5 weeks. (after adjusting him twice that night he slept soundly for the first time.) After this weekend ALOT of my frustrations and discouragement¼s went away. I realize again why I'm doing this. I love to practice but this other stuff can really weigh you down. ... That child is your purpose to release the child within everyone no matter their age. A building without people is a wasted space .. a practice that doesn¼t grow is due to the lack of imagination and creativity .. the fact that you want to try means it will happen just hang in there.
