Q: I use CBP and others trying to make structural change but am sometimes disappointed with the results. They are so dependent on pt. compliance with home care( c-traction and exercises , etc.). Also, I know pts. are very reluctant to do c-traction and do so at my urging. Am I asking too much of them in our busy lifestyles and possibly turning them off? A: The answer to patient compliance is knowledge. If they truly understand the purpose of your requesting their assistance and how it can benefit them they will. Why should they do their homework and exercise or be in traction .. what is the short and long term goal .. what would happen if they didn't? Would it take more time to correct their problem .. cost them more money .. have them return again with similar problems .. wear and tear them sooner? Follow through with continuing education with CBP .. e-mail other DC's using it .. have a mentor in the technique .. keep the frustration level to a minimum Have a Great Day Dr. M
