Fear of change often prevents us from readily spreading our wings and tasting new thoughts and ideas. But .. change is inevitable. As I stood before my students at Life .. I knew that change was very close .. many of you reading this know exactly what I mean. The womb of student life was soon replaced when the cord was detached and the embryonic stage of professional life began. Crawling for some awaited their first step before National and State boards and specific decisions on which way to change evolved. Nonetheless .. change was inevitable. Nature transforms itself with the change of seasons. Nature waits for no man and its timetable of change forces us to adapt. This is true also of the natural flow of business forcing the adaptable to change. The key word is adaptable .. doctor are you flexible for change .. can you adapt to the changes when it confronts your comfort zone .. are you ready to move with the flow or will you get in its way? Those amongst us who challenge their belief system while digging deeper for the core of knowledge change their approach towards life and practice once they reach reason. Those amongst us who find their level of knowledge and practice acceptable will also change once they find an obstacle to forward movement. But .. change without direction is as turbulent as the winds of nature. Change must be harnessed and controlled for us to adapt easily and efficiently. If you have recently attended a technic or practice management seminar .. have you made your promised changes .. yet? If you are a student have you managed your time between study and clinic to develop your future as a DC or are you waiting for that inevitable uncontrolled cruel change? If you are inundated with practice tension such as staff turmoil .. patient compliance .. collection issues .. new patient acquisition .. you are probably ready for a change. If you are blessed with a thriving and healthy practice with personal purpose .. staff enthusiasm .. referring patients .. a fair financial exchange and the natural ability to acquire new patients you will find the nuances of change has probably been invisible. Why .. because the morphic gel of practice substance is due to change and adaptation. If you are happy as is .. change little .. but keep your gyroscope well oiled to sway and aright with the time. If you are unhappy with the status quo either socially or professionally be prepared to change.
