From: Dr. Margolies .. 8-29-02 www.chirosmart.net LUCC update: Again no concrete news about accreditation to report. Today廣 local papers report that 49 jobs are being eliminated due to the financial crunch and drop in student enrollment. This is a travesty .. it should never have come to this. I hope the Board of Trustees are implementing proper procedures to conform to the CCE rulings allowing a semblance of the heritage and traditions that both created and sustained LUCC to this point. Students will be leaving for their end of quarter break still awaiting the final appeal ruling. I hope that sane and compassionate heads will lead the CCE to the proper decision .. a further year of probation with a strict timeline for specific implementation. Check my webpage under Chiropractic News for the latest newspaper stories. E-mail message this week: Change is Good Throughout my 25 years in chiropractic I影e had the highs and lows with the dreaded burn- out that so many professionals experience during their long careers. There are multiple solutions and self help advice but nothing is as successful as change. Flowers always smell fresher and grass is always greener across the street. Nothing is as self destructive as remorse and self pity. If the proverbial shoe is beginning to fit and you find that change is adverse to your personality then expect to wallow in a torturous period of burnt bridges left in the wake. Change is good and even necessary to avoid sameness and burn out. Excitement doesn廠 have to have a hefty price tag. Excitement is cheap and starts with a smile utilizing far less facial muscles that a frown. Excitement comes from the realization that each day is a new start and within your control. Change is as tepid as a new color scheme in the clothes you wear or the walls of your office .. the olfactory presence of a new environment or the newness of a fresh idea. Change is in the offering when change is necessary. It is necessary if there is less spark in your eye when you come to work .. when your staff offers little encouragement or advice .. when you feel speaking with a patient is a burden rather than a privilege .. when your practice is on a steady dip and you are losing control of the flow .. when outflow of funds exceeds inflow .. when you are at the mercy of others .. when you feel desperate moment by moment and when you feel that adjusting patients is work. Change can be as dramatic as firing staff .. changing techniques .. attending seminars and implementing new ideas and getting a grip on issues at hand and delegating. Change can be as radical as following through with winnable old and new concepts .. spending time with family and friends recharging your social batteries for the professional juice needed at work. Change is good Change starts with the realization that it is necessary. Necessity is the mother of creation and from this a new day will grow. If you are desperate .. need a lift .. feel unachieved and unfulfilled what advice would you offer others .. okay implement it yourself. If your practice is less satisfying then you hoped then what advice would you offer others .. okay implement it yourself. If your ability to attract and keep new patients is less then desirable .. what advice would you give others .. okay implement it yourself. Never slide into the abyss of self pity and wow is me .. the same sky that you may feel is falling on you also hovers and shelters those that look towards the heavens with a full plate. If you are a student at LUCC and are contemplating a huge change .. do so if you will with a heavy heart but realize that with change forward movement is possible. If you are a student at a school welcoming LUCC students do so with an understanding that by the grace of the heavens it could have been you. We are all in this battle of winning the hearts and minds of a public wishing to be Healthy and Well. Change is difficult but often necessary. The key is .. make it .. implement .. use it .. don廠 look back Have a Great Day Dr. M Postings this week: Associate needed for Columbia, SC .. After a lot of hard work and reviewing over a thousand stories that have already been submitted they feel they have about half of the stories they need, but they are still missing specific ones that I thought you may want to contribute to this important book. Here is what they still need, so select the one (or more) that is appropriate for you: 1: A story of a famous celebrity and chiropractic. (This could be a sports figure, sports team, an entertainment personality, a political figure, etc.) Maybe from your patient base or members patient. Make sure to get their permission to use the story. This will give more mass appeal and credibility to the book. 2. A humorous story. Funny moments in your practice or as a chiropractor. 3. A story that portrays or evokes a greater quality of LOVE. An exceptional unconditional act of love by a chiropractor or by a patient to a chiropractor. 4. A story where a chiropractor or a patient overcame a great obstacle (maybe to go to school, to open a practice, get to the office, to be successful in their practice, overcome some personal obstacle, etc.) 5. A story where a chiropractor did something extraordinary for their local community. 6. A story of philanthropy--where a chiropractor gave a lot for a great cause, organized people for a great cause, spearheaded a great cause, etc. 7. A story that shows the entrepreneurial spirit of a chiropractor. 8. A cute story of children and chiropractic. Light and humorous, wise beyond their years, or simply touching. 9. A story showing kindness or celebrating a caring spirit. 10.A story showing chiropractor(s) giving help to people in foreign countries. Maybe a missionary or medical missionary trip. 11. A story of a memorable patient that touched your heart. 12. A story containing a defining moment or a personal Epiphany. 13. A story of a humanitarian nature (helping out with September 11, earthquake, floods, riots, etc.) 14. We need about 12 really great cartoons relating to chiropractic. 15. Also, we need quotes of famous people that relate to chiropractic or some of your own chiropractic quotes or just quotes that relate to the themes of the stories in the book. As you can see they want very specific stories that they are lacking. There is no shortage of chiropractic miracle stories, but they want the book to be balanced with the other types of stories that readers find very appealing. Go to: www.parkercc.edu/chickensoup/index.asp> to read the guidelines for submitting stories. I hope you will take the time to submit your story as this book may be what we have been praying for as a tool to get the chiropractic story out to the masses. Time is critical as we want to bring this tool to our profession by early next year!!! So please send A.S.A.P.
