The old adage „out of sight -- out of mind¾ is especially true in the service business .. our business. Patients who followed your recommended schedule early in the year but have not maintained their spinal care are often lost in space waiting for another health crisis to remember your last recommendation .. maintenance. Since their busy lifestyle does not place a value to maintain their conservative health supporting biomechanical subluxation reducing chiropractic care .. they flounder from crisis to crisis. Could it be we didn¼t place a value on maintenance or for that matter chiropractic itself? Time to change. We have many resources to assist with patient awareness. Professional marketers create .. print .. send monthly office newsletters via snail mail or use this format .. e-mails. You can purchase office videos .. charts .. pamphlets and more. Our national media provides us with issue oriented discussions confirming our choice for natural healing and an alternative to drugs and surgery. Sports and lifestyle enhancement websites along with local focus groups stimulate their members to seek increased performance along with reduced injuries via chiropractic. It is only a matter of retrieving and using this material to our advantage or rather to the advantage of our patients and community. Thanks to many of you sending articles and newsletter material I am able to create a simple retrievable resource. The possibilities of success in our profession is enhanced with the level of reaching out and touching others .. literally. Often the resistance towards practice growth rests with the level of self worth or self esteem of the doctor and/or staff. Often the resistance towards practice growth rests with the level of belief and understanding of the doctors and/or staff skill. Often the resistance towards practice growth rests with the level of communications the doctor and/or staff has with their patients and community. But .. ultimtely the level of our practice growth rests with us. If there is just a smidgen of truth in what I just wrote then the answer toward success is clear and simple .. change. Wow .. easy to say .. hard to do? Well .. not really. If you remember a movie called „What about Bob¾ .. Bill Murray was afraid of change (who amongst us is not .. even a little) and the solution provided by his therapist was to take Baby Steps. Goals are met by placing rungs of your ladder towards the top within reach. Often doctors spend seminar fees and consulting time and leave with pie in the sky ideals with very little practical baby steps for change. Yes .. some are ready for the change and soar upwards with the flow .. while many if not most .. resist and have little to show for their efforts except frustration. Change can and often is good .. how you change will define your success. So .. as we end this year let us consider what we have done and what more we can do. Let us consider the changes we should make and the action (baby) steps we need to implement. Let us acknowledge and appreciate our patients and staff and share with them our valuable knowedge of chiropractic and ask them to share this with others. Let us concentrate on providing quality service to more and achieving the goals and success we deserve. **** New Year Seminar and Consulting Information **** As we survive Y2K and step into the last year before the new millinium .. I plan to make some changes. Since my affiliation with Life University is complete .. I feel comfortable sharing my years of teaching and the information I presented with the general chiropractic public. The only thing wrong with them is the sponge pads have fallen off the clamps (and they need to be cleaned up and oiled). However, they are not rusted, corroded, etc. DC is pleased to give them (that's right --- give, not sell) to a young doctor just getting started who is doing an upper cervical technique and needs to take precise upper cervical films.
