From: Dr. Margolies At the conclusion of this week¼s e-mail are some postings. An Orlando DC wishing to care for your visiting patient¼s .. an idea to promote your practice with flowers .. an inspiring book written by a DC and a Spanish Webpage written from Spain .. take a look. As always .. send me your chiropractic oriented posting and I¼ll get it in. E-mail message this week: Butterflies Having the great honor of instructing fresh and almost graduating chiropractors at Life University has offered me an insight into the continuous creation of a new practice. I can look into the eyes and souls of many of these students and sense their anxiety and anticipation. I also have a knack to sense who¼s got it and who has yet to find it. But .. whether these new doctors will associate .. be an independent contractor .. or hopefully go out on their own .. they have one thing in common .. they need to morph themselves into butterflies. Think about it. All the years they sat in classrooms and questioned their teachers .. felt their hands were magic .. contained their enthusiasm .. badgered their neighbors trying to complete their clinic requirements .. taking never ending boards .. waiting for graduation and more boards .. then ...... This was their caterpillar stage. Crawling on the belly of limited then increased knowledge .. sensing awareness of the potential of chiropractic .. witnessing the wonders when less is better than more .. challenging the belief system of their family and friends .. just about everyone they knew they soon realized knew nothing about what they know now .. some of those closest to them drifted farther apart .. now they realized that life would be different. They knew what people needed to know. As the new graduate searched for a location or best avenue to spread their wings they had to consolidate their energy and funds. Reaching out to their fellow chiropractors was often futile .. unfortunately sharing and caring coincided with competition .. so they gathered their thoughts .. found a few good natured colleagues and ventured ahead .. this was their cocoon stage .. a metamorphosis from student to doctor .. from an idea to action .. from survivalist to surviver. The transition from cocoon to butterfly with wings and a prayer .. took time. In the sac they began to change. From awkwardness to awareness .. transforming into trials and errors .. turning to success and wins and breaking free flying with wings of which to soar. So this is the lifecycle of the new chiropractor .. fresh .. dedicated .. opinionated .. demanding .. visionary .. able to heal the world with their pisiforms alone. But what of the established doctor .. in practice over five years .. attempting to break free of their own imposed cocoon? This doctor comes to work each morning with dread on their face. This doctor spends more time creating awareness for anything other than chiropractic. This doctor has poor people skills especially with staff. This doctor has placed a vise around their practice and won¼t let it breath .. life itself is being stifled .. growth is impossible .. stability is rare and survival is the mode for the day .. week ... month .... year. This doctor needs a reformation .. need for change is so clear but so dependent on them. They need a personal and professional make over .. liposuction of the soul .. a lobotomy of the mind .. an adjustment for sure. Can this doctor make the transition again .. from caterpillar to cocoon .. to a thriving butterfly .. nay .. an Eagle! You bet .. but it¼ll take work. What stimulated this week¼s e-mail was a recent visit to a local chiropractic office. This doctor has been in active practice more than ten years. If she had been out of debt and invested her money well .. her life would be beyond survival .. but she isn¼t and she didn¼t. Her practice was always like a roller coaster with highs and lows. Predicting a steady income was impossible .. maintaining a steady patient flow was elusive .. the practice was often in turmoil. Over the years .. I¼ve been to lunch with this doctor and kept my opinions to myself .. but over a year ago she asked for guidance. I mentioned she make a commitment .. place a goal on her future .. set action steps into action .. get her head out of the way. After the initial rebellious „I can¼t .. it won¼t work .. what for¾ .. questions were slowly asked and answers quickly given. Seek counsel from those that know I said .. spend the time and money to alter the clinic .. travel out of state for seminars .. hone your technic .. retrain your staff .. fire and hire .. grasp the totality of chiropractic .. think positive and leave the negatives and fears at the door then Go For It! Okay .. what a difference a year makes. Money spent was minimal .. changes made were maximal .. patients were impressed .. staff were enthusiastic and services increased .. office procedures were followed without compromise .. follow through was the rule and the practice multiplied a number of times in just a few months. We all have the ability to chill out .. return to the womb of knowledge .. stand back and see the totality .. set goals and create winnable action steps and then stand back and go with the flow then soar like a butterfly .. nay .. an Eagle! Dr. M Reminder: Tedd Koren¼s daily updates and your Koren comments can be found on my webpage: http://www.mindspring.com/~chirosmart Today¼s¼ postings: DC for your Orlando coverage: I would be delighted to provide patient coverage for visitors coming to the Central Florida area and could further refer if they continue their travels around this lovely tropical state. We see a number of winter visitors. Always providing findings and case notes to the patient to return to their treating chiropractor upon their return home. X-ray listings, actual films and techniques are appreciated. The doctor treating that patient knows best what works with that individual. If I don't use a specific technique, I would be happy to refer them to another DC locally who performs specific technique. S. Roberts, DC, 407-847-6788, 22 N. Bermuda Ave., Kissimmee, Fl. 34741 e-mail Dr. Roberts at: Lacedoc@ aol.com Doctor wishes to share their floral ideas as patient gifts: My wife and I came across this company last year while shopping for gifts to give our best referring patients, attorneys, medical doctors and other business associates. We have never, in our 5 years of giving holiday "thank you for referring" gifts, gotten such a positive response from those who received the baskets. Nearly everyone who received one (the attorneys..) called to thank us and could not believe the quality and beautiful presentation. We are planning to use them again, and we were so impressed, I thought, I would pass along their web site to you for possible use by your chiropractic subscribers. They are also good chiropractic patients!!! Todd Narson, DC, CCSP Here's their web site: http://floridakeys.net/baskets/ DC writes inspiring book: I have recently been honored to have a book published by Avery Publishing Group, I would really appreciate being included in your "week's postings". The book, Triumph Over Illness is not only jam-packed with facts that need to get out to the public, it is also an enjoyable read with illustrative stories and interesting examples. Following is a paragraph describing the book and its potential uses for education and ordering information. William S. Gandee B.S., D.C. "Powerful Patient Education" With fearless determination Dr. William S. Gandee urges patients to not settle for a "sickness care" system but to, instead, demand real health. Written in a reader-friendly style, Triumph Over Illness relates the powerful message of chiropractic through illustrative stories, historical facts and memorable examples. Designed to be a tool to add visual impact to your words to patients, Triumph Over Illness contains easily highlighted topics that can be pointed out in adjusting room discussion, read and understood in waiting rooms by patients and their friends and families and integrated into office staff "ready-knowledge" of chiropractic. With the belief that chiropractic can only be elevated to the prominence it deserves through effective education, Triumph Over Illness purposefully, powerfully and persuasively works toward this goal. Every chiropractor should have this book in his/her office. It can be purchased at any national chain bookstore or for volume discount you may call Avery Publishing Group at 1-800-548-5757. A must for every doctor of chiropractic and a must read for every M.D., D.O. and attorney. Visit Dr. Gandee's website: www.drgandee.com. Spanish Chiropractic Site .. written from Spain We've created a new website for Chiropractors by Chiropractors, specifically for those 80 D.C's who practice in Spain, where chiropractic as of yet has not been regulated, and your fellow D.C.'s are attacked by M.D.'s and P.T.'s just the way it was in the old days in the USA. If you'd like to show your support to fellow D.C.'s, meet new people, join us for our regular Chat Meeting, or just visit a new site concerning Chiropractic, visit http://www.arrakis.es/~quirobalear , and don't forget to sign our guestbook! If you wish to receive notice of our regular updates, and of our next online event, please use the Mailing List option on the site. If you have a website concerning the profession, please let us know, so we can link our site to yours. Many D.C.'s use the site as an entry to explore all they can possibly find concerning Chiropractic, it would be a pity if we didn't get a chance to visit you!
