Dear Doctor: This is from Dr. Dennis Permanžs weekly motivational e-mail. He can be reached at: masters9@aol.com As you have no doubt surmised if you've been paying any attention to this column over the last two-plus years, I love to read. Few experiences are as stimulating as the right words, written and read at the right time in just the right way. I encourage you to read, not only to collect information, not only for enjoyment, but as a statement of the kind of person you are -- open, willing, passionate about opportunities for growth and self-development. This year, there was in my opinion an exceptionally rich crop of books -- books about life, awareness, spirituality, love, fun, history, and personal growth. I had almost thirty books noted on my research list -- it was tough to pick the twelve best, but I did. And so I present to you, the cream of my literary travels for the year of 1999, the Official Dr. Dennis Recommended Reading List. Ethics For The New Millennium -- The Dalai Lama The Roaring 2000's -- Harry S. Dent The Invitation -- Oriah Mountain Dreamer Wisdom Of The Ages -- Wayne Dyer How To Get What You Want And Want What You Have -- John Gray The Way Of Aikido -- George Leonard The 22 Immutable Laws Of Branding -- Al Ries The Wisdom Of The Enneagram -- Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson Brain Super Charger -- Dane Spotts Joe Torre's Ground Rules For Winners -- Joe Torre Friendship With God -- Neale Donald Walsch Enchanted Love -- Marianne Williamson I also wanted to give honorable mention to several books which have been around for a while, but were new to me, and very worthwhile -- Seat Of The Soul, by Gary Zukav; The E-Myth Revisited, by Michael Gerber; Far Journeys, by Robert Monroe; Seven Kinds Of Smart, by Thomas Armstrong; You Are Special, by Max Lucado; and From Here To Greater Happiness, by J.M. and C.K. Teutsch. Of course, don't miss the opportunity to reconnect with some of the classics -- Think And Grow Rich (Hill), The Dynamic Laws Of Prosperity (Ponder), Unlimited Power (Robbins), Awaken The Giant Within (Robbins), Conversations With God (Walsch), The Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success (Chopra), Psycho-Cybernetics (Maltz), Real Magic (Dyer), Discovering Your Personality Type (Riso), and Everyday Enlightenment (Millman), to name a few. There -- that ought to keep you busy. Set some goals around reading -- how much time each day, how many books per year, or whatever. Develop a high standard in this area -- it will come back to reward you many times over.
