From: Dr.Margolies This week¼s e-mail message: Keep the Big things Big and small things small .. I began writing this week¼s e-mail while at Life University, during my one office hour delegated for students to meet with me. Across the hall from the computer room was Dr. Michael Rappaport, the department head of Chiropractic Philosophy at Life University. In passing, I asked him what my e-mail message this week should be. Being the philosophy guru at Life .. his immediate response was to write something concerning keeping the Big things Big and small things small .. too philosophical .. I thought .. I first wanted to write something about Riverdance .. the Irish group that has taken the United States by storm .. hoofing from town to town .. and relating their excellent production to chiropractic management. They had a full page blurp in the local paper this past weekend .. relating the rigors each dancer and musician goes through per performance. They even mentioned they have a chiropractor traveling with them and almost everyone gets an adjustments. If I were to discuss ergonomics .. would this be a classic .. chiropractic being used to increase employee productivity while decreasing their level of downtime. Considering we need to consolidate our energy and create a dynamo of power to work the turbines that move our office .. the idea of Keeping the Big things Big and small things small .. makes great sense. Dr. Rappaport would consider .. as a chiropractic philosopher .. that as chiropractors and deductive scientists .. we cover the gamut of the whole while the inductive folks consider the parts as their main concern. Considering .. as I do office and community management .. I sense that the Riverdance crew considers their whole being a well functioning organization .. from set up to make up crew. Their belief that each component (small) works for the betterment of the whole (Big) is understood .. because they created an organizational chart where the delegation of responsibility has been tested .. understood .. assumed. They keep the vision of the production (the Bigness) in sight because they know the components are in place. Last week¼s e-mail concerning service attitude mentioned the CEO of Coca-Cola .. he was a genius at delegating responsibility. He understood that the concepts of his product was delegated from the draftsman creating the bottle logo to the distributor of each bottle and can. But he never lost sight of the Big Picture .. he never lost sight that the components with proper motivation would turn those turbines and create a whirlwind of energy .. when the curtain opens tonight at the Civic Center in Atlanta, and the quiet drumbeat creates the atmosphere that will grow into an exciting crescendo .. the producers and director could be out having dinner .. as their product is assured the Big things remaining Big and small things will remain small. This we also must keep in mind. Doctor .. considering your daily office habits .. are you dwelling on the small things rather than seeing the entire Big Picture? Are you overly concerned about the negative few patient¼s rather than the positive many? Are you looking at the few staff weaknesses rather than how their positive tone helps creates the office atmosphere? Are you dwelling on bills rather than creating a community outreach program so your community can be aware of your product .. and your bills be paid? Are you dwelling on the small components only .. or have you taken the time to plan your daily office procedures .. your weekly outreach programs .. your monthly staff training .. your yearly goals .. so they become second nature and the Big Picture remains is a beauty to behold. Riverdance .. the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra .. Phantom of the Opera .. Family Chiropractic Center .. Big Productions with a vision focused on the BIGNESS .. give this some thought Dr. M
