Apprentice 2 Due to a number of time consuming issues I am late sending this week's e-mail and just had to watch this week's Apprentice prior to even considering sitting down and writing my weekly message. When this reality TV show which concerns working for Donald Trump first hit the airwaves I wrote an e-mail message with the same title. They were individually interviewed by Trump's personal executive staff and the exchange was quite intense. After twelve weeks of watching each contestant show their ability at leadership and teamanship it was interesting that it all hinged on this next to the final episode to reveal who was truly standing on their feet and proved their strengths more than anything else we observed before. The executives in a few minutes reported to their boss their gut and experienced opinion about each and it was right on! What is the message for us as chiropractors .. simply we too are called each working day to stand on our feet proving our strengths and decision making and our ability to lead our staff to excel while demanding respect from our patients so that our opinions are followed and upheld. Do you think the Trump's executives would listen to you whine that your practice numbers are down .. that your staff has the energy of a spent Eveready battery .. that the number of patients slipping through your practice resembles a sieve .. that your level of acquiring new patients is limited to your energy and that leaves much to be desired or do you think they would gravitate to the power source of the DC next to you creating with either limited or expansive budgets a glow of energy making things happen and demanding by example success. Brothers and Sisters on chiropractic I ask you each to review your practice actions and determine if at the end of the day you feel fulfilled and would it pass muster. Did you plan and did you work your plan with the best team or are you compromising? Are you making the proper changes to move forward and who or what holds you back. Think of yourself also being called to the boardroom and being questioned by these executives. They asked pointed and tough questions and your response needed to be focused and direct. Sound familiar .. each consultation and report of findings demands no less focus and direction. They asked what you would bring to the table if you were hired to run a Trump company. Sound familiar .. each patient recommendation was a performance and each visit is an audition. You may not like this tactic and feel that it isn't you .. so be it .. but for all others who feel that success could also be fun .. fulfilling .. goal reaching .. family oriented .. health promoting and within total happiness and where money helps the pot boil by playing within the ethical and responsible rules of the game then self introspection is a must and each day's performance results either to the suite or the street. We all need tweaking and a coach .. we need someone other than ourselves reviewing our actions and righting our course. Each school needs a team of experienced mentors willing to guide a class and be available by e-mail or phone. Every school alumni group needs to create a resource for those that left the cocoon of school and whose wings have yet to develop strongly. Every state association should have as their mission statement the desire to elevate every member towards practice and technical success. Every DC should call their DC neighbor and rather that compete .. meet. We need each other as we are all journeymen and women daily earning the title of Apprentice.
