E-mail message this week: action As we close this year and plan for the next .. I feel obligated to spend a weeks¼ e-mail with our new collegues and those that find their practices in various levels of practice turmoil. The theme and tone of all my e-mails has and always will be positive but respectful to our DC¼s who are challanged and those just starting out .. I¼d like to take this time to share with you hope and help for a succesful and better year to come. This e-mail was prompted by a rash of concerned „panic¾ e-mails I received these recent weeks. I receive 20 plus e-mails daily from DC¼s worldwide. Obviously .. I enjoy your kind thoughts and thanks .. but I also enjoy assisting those with questions. Many of you have received e-mails from me asking to assist another DC because my level of knowledge was limited. This is how we grow. It¼s always a win-win. Therefore .. I decided to write a general e-mail for these DC¼s and often their concerned spouses .. most of them with new or declining clinics. I will outline basic steps to push aside the panic and fear and replace it with some control and positive action steps. If you wish to listen in please do .. if not .. have a great day until next week. By the way .. I always welcome your feedback and sharing. As I mentioned .. I have been receiving a number of panic e-mails recently from new DC¼s and/or spouses with a common concern .. „what do and can we do now.¾ Fortunately .. no previous students of mine were amongst them. Listen .. business is business whether you are a baker .. chiropractor .. organ grinder .. orthopedic surgeon .. business is business. Common threads of action steps must be followed and discipline must be maintained. Start by reviewing areas of practice management or office promotion that is weak. If you have other DC¼s you feel comfortable asking for advice .. do so .. if you have none .. you have me and what is best .. it¼s free. Begin by focusing on areas that are out of control or have little cohesiveness. Next write action steps .. similar to a wish list .. even if you cannot fathom it happening. Finally delegate responsibilities and place a timeline for completion. If you work alone .. be sure the timeline allows enough time to complete one job at a time. Being overwhelmed with little reward is defeatist at best. This is similar to opening a closet full of incomplete old ideas and programs with them falling upon you .. with no more room for more. Before long you rather not even bother. Now .. carefully log these tasks on paper and revert back to it daily. Check off each task¼s level of completion and determine who or what needs assistance to successfully complete the job at hand. Expect to succeed and leave any prior negative thoughts aside. Once complete .. link each task with the overall project. Once this is done extend the developing web of knowledge and grow some more. If you are not one to succeed with ease .. don¼t be too anxious .. slow growth will reach the ultimate goal as well. Careful planning and follow through with specific action steps is the only answer and has been the bridge between the novice and the veteran for all time. As you follow the ebb and flow of success .. write down your concerns and solutions as if you were consulting others. Close your eyes and visualize one of our many consultants or successful doctors you know and place them in your office .. what would they do and why .. now answer to yourself by determining why you couldn¼t .. wouldn¼t. Was it money .. staff .. managed care .. location .. equipment .. debt .. personal problems .. whatever. Consider this .. if some chiropractic guru came to your office with the same budget retraints and similar concerns would and could they achieve where you didn¼t? Probably .. limited resources and all just require more creativity and further focused action. I guarantee you they would implement in one fashion or other some of the advice above. They would consolidate their energy and begin to focus .. they would delegate and implement .. they would set it all in motion and allow the wheels to move forward. So .. do your homework and write your concerns .. write solutions and act(ion) rather than react(ion). If you need help .. send me your homework and we¼ll work on it together.
